The architecture of Rocket Terminal Emulator is centered around three primary components: the Terminal Emulation Engine, the Configuration Manager, and the Security Module. The Terminal Emulation Engine is the core of the system, responsible for handling the display and communication with the mainframe using the TN3270 protocol. This engine interprets the data streams from the mainframe and renders them on the user's screen, while also translating user input into the appropriate commands for the mainframe.
The Configuration Manager provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for configuring terminal sessions, including settings for display, keyboard mappings, and security. The Security Module handles authentication and encryption, ensuring secure connections to the mainframe. Communication between these components is primarily internal, with the Terminal Emulation Engine interacting directly with the network and the Configuration Manager and Security Module providing settings and security policies.
The product uses configuration files to store settings for terminal sessions, security, and other features. The Security Module supports user ID/password authentication and encryption. The network requirements include access to the mainframe via the TN3270 protocol, typically over TCP/IP.
The administrative interface is a GUI. The product's architecture is designed to provide secure and reliable access to mainframe applications.
