Product Overview

The architecture of ASG-APC for Strobe comprises several key components: the Automation Engine, the Strobe Interface, the Configuration Manager, and the Reporting Module. The Automation Engine is the central control unit, responsible for managing the start and stop of Strobe monitoring sessions based on user-defined criteria. It interacts with the Strobe Interface to initiate and terminate monitoring.

The Strobe Interface uses a native API to communicate with Strobe, collecting performance data and controlling monitoring sessions. The Configuration Manager provides a user-friendly interface for defining monitoring profiles, setting thresholds, and configuring other parameters. It stores configuration data in z/OS datasets.

The Reporting Module generates reports based on the collected data, providing insights into system performance. Communication between components occurs through z/OS internal mechanisms. The system leverages the z/OS security environment for authentication and access control, supporting RBAC.

The Automation Engine uses configuration files to store monitoring criteria and schedules. The Configuration Manager provides a CLI and a graphical interface for managing these files. The system does not use external databases; it relies on z/OS datasets for data storage.

Network requirements are minimal, as communication occurs primarily within the z/OS environment. Compared to manual Strobe usage, ASG-APC offers automated monitoring, reducing manual effort and improving the consistency of performance data collection. Competitors include other performance monitoring tools, but ASG-APC provides specific automation tailored for Strobe.
