The architecture of CICS Journal Archive comprises three main components: the Journal Archiving Task, the Tape Management Interface, and the JCL Processor. The Journal Archiving Task is a CICS task that monitors CICS journal switches. When a journal switch occurs, this task triggers the archiving process.
The Tape Management Interface handles all interactions with the tape drives, including allocating and deallocating tape volumes, and managing the data transfer to tape. The JCL Processor executes the JCL scripts that define the archive jobs. , device type, volume serial numbers), retention periods, and scheduling options.
The communication between these components is primarily through z/VSE system calls and internal CICS mechanisms. Configuration is primarily done through JCL, which defines the journal datasets, tape drive parameters, and scheduling options. The product does not expose any APIs.
Security relies on z/VSE security features for access control to the journal datasets and tape drives. The product's primary function is to provide a backup and recovery solution for CICS journals. This product is not supported; migrate to a supported CICS environment.
