The architecture of ASG-TriTune is centered around three primary components: the data collector, the analysis engine, and the reporting module. The data collector is responsible for gathering performance metrics during the execution of monitored application modules. This component leverages z/OS system services to capture data related to CPU usage, I/O operations, and wait times.
The analysis engine processes the collected data, calculating key performance indicators (KPIs) such as response times, resource consumption, and wait states. This engine utilizes algorithms to identify performance bottlenecks and generate detailed performance profiles. The reporting module generates comprehensive reports that provide insights into application behavior.
These reports can be accessed through the ISPF interface or generated in batch mode. The tool uses standard z/OS file systems for storing collected data and report output. Communication between components occurs through z/OS system calls and file I/O operations.
The configuration files define the scope of monitoring, including the specific modules to be monitored, the duration of the monitoring sessions, and the reporting parameters. The tool supports integration with CICS, IMS, DB2, and WebSphere MQ environments, as well as COBOL, PL/1, and assembler programs. Compared to IBM Z Performance Management Suite, TriTune offers a more focused approach to application-level performance analysis, providing granular insights into resource consumption and wait states.
The primary API interaction is through JCL and ISPF panels for initiating monitoring sessions and retrieving reports.
