Product Overview

The architecture of PIE/TSO View is designed for efficient TSO session monitoring within a z/OS environment. The main components include the View Server, Session Interceptor, and User Interface. The View Server acts as the central hub, managing connections, authenticating users via RACF, and distributing screen data to authorized viewers.

The Session Interceptor, a crucial component, resides within the z/OS environment and captures screen data from target TSO sessions. It intercepts the data streams sent to the 3270 terminal emulator, ensuring real-time data capture. The User Interface, typically a 3270 emulator, displays the captured screen data, providing a visual representation of the user's TSO session.

Communication between the View Server and the User Interface is facilitated via TCP/IP, ensuring reliable and efficient data transfer. The Session Interceptor interacts with TSO sessions using standard z/OS system services. The CLI provides commands for administrative tasks, such as starting and stopping the View Server, managing user access, and configuring logging.

Example commands include `VIEW USERID` to view a session, `START VIEWSRV` to start the View Server, and `STOP VIEWSRV` to stop the View Server. The system provides detailed logging of all viewing activities, including the user who viewed the session, the target session viewed, and the timestamps. This information is crucial for auditing and security purposes.

The system integrates with RACF for secure authentication and access control.
