The architecture of Extended Buffer Manager for CICS (EBM) comprised several key components. The EBM control region was the central component, responsible for managing the caching process, including allocating and managing buffer pools. Buffer pools were allocated in memory and stored cached VSAM data.
A VSAM interface facilitated interaction with VSAM datasets, intercepting I/O requests and serving them from the cache when possible. Configuration was primarily managed through control statements and JCL, defining buffer pool sizes, and specifying which VSAM datasets to cache. The product did not have external API endpoints.
Communication between components occurred within the z/OS environment. Data storage utilized VSAM. There were no specific network requirements.
The Snapshot Copy feature created point-in-time copies of VSAM datasets. The product is not supported; users should consider alternatives like IBM CICS Transaction Server or Rocket Software RM/T.
