DR/VFI

The architecture of DR/VFI is centered around three primary components: the Dataset Discovery Engine, the Backup Manager, and the Recovery Engine. The Dataset Discovery Engine analyzes system metadata to identify datasets critical to applications. The Backup Manager uses the `BACKUP` command, which initiates the backup process.

Backups are stored on specified storage, with options for compression and encryption. The Recovery Engine uses the `RECOVER` command to restore datasets from backups. Communication between these components occurs over TCP/IP, ensuring reliable data transfer.

Configuration is primarily managed through JCL and ISPF panels. The system supports RBAC, with roles defined to control access to specific functions and data. The system uses standard z/OS security features for authentication.

Audit logs record all actions, including user logins, command executions, and data access. DR/VFI does not expose a REST or SOAP API. The primary interface is a native interface through JCL and ISPF panels.

DR/VFI's architecture is designed for high availability and scalability, providing a robust solution for data protection.
