The architecture of HDB for VSEn is centered around its hierarchical data model and integration with the z/VSE environment. The main components include the Database Manager, the OLTP interface, the Data Definition Language (DDL) processor, and the data access modules. The Database Manager is responsible for data storage, retrieval, and management.
The OLTP interface handles transaction processing and provides the primary means of interacting with the database. The DDL processor is used to define the database schema, including the creation of databases, segments, and records. Data access modules provide the interface for applications to interact with the database.
Communication between components is primarily internal to the z/VSE system. Data is stored using a hierarchical structure optimized for specific data relationships. There are no external APIs.
Security is managed through the z/VSE system's security features, which may include RBAC. Audit and logging capabilities are provided through z/VSE logging facilities.
