The architecture of z/OS Advanced Data Gatherer (z/OS ADG) is centered around several key components that work together to collect, process, and present performance data. RMF Monitor I is responsible for gathering performance data on a regular basis, writing this data to SMF records. RMF Monitor II provides real-time snapshots of z/OS performance, while RMF Monitor III collects more detailed performance data.
The RMF Distributed Data Server (RMF DDS) acts as a server, allowing access to RMF Monitor III data from a web browser. The RMF Performance Monitor (RMF PM) is a workstation-based utility used to display data from the RMF DDS. These components communicate through the z/OS operating system and network protocols.
Data flows from the monitors to SMF, and then to the RMF DDS for web access. The RMF DDS uses a database for storing and serving data. The RMF PM connects to the RMF DDS via TCP/IP, typically using ports 10001 (HTTP) and 10002 (HTTPS).
The z/OS security system, such as RACF, is used for access control. Configuration is managed through RMF parmlib members and the RMF configuration tool. Key commands include START RMF, STOP RMF, and MODIFY RMF.
