VitalSigns for VTAM

The architecture of VitalSigns for VTAM is based on a client-server model, designed to operate within a z/OS environment. The main components include the VSVTAM agent, the data collector, and the reporting engine. The VSVTAM agent resides on the z/OS system and collects network performance data from SNA and TCP/IP connections, including Telnet and FTP.

The data collector processes the collected data, aggregates metrics, and stores the information. The reporting engine provides the user interface for viewing real-time performance data, generating reports, and managing alerts. Communication between these components occurs over TCP/IP, utilizing specific ports for data transfer and control.

The VSVTAM agent communicates with the data collector, sending performance data. The data collector then interacts with the reporting engine to display the data and generate reports. Data storage utilizes a combination of VSAM and sequential datasets.

The system supports user authentication through RACF integration, and access control is managed using RBAC. The administrative interfaces include a TSO/ISPF interface and a command-line interface (CLI). The CLI allows for scripting and automation of tasks.

The product's API supports data retrieval and integration via HTTP, with support for Assembler and COBOL. The API provides methods for retrieving network status, performance metrics, and generating custom reports. Security is enhanced through encryption for sensitive data transmission and comprehensive audit logging.
