The architecture of PIE/CICS Dynamic Menus centers around three main components: the Menu Definition Manager, the Menu Interpreter, and the Menu Presentation module. The Menu Definition Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining menu definitions. These definitions are stored in configuration files, which specify the menu structure, options, and associated actions.
The Menu Interpreter processes these definitions, translating them into a format that the CICS environment can understand. The Menu Presentation module then displays the menus to the user. Communication between these components occurs within the CICS environment, utilizing standard CICS protocols.
The Menu Definition Manager interacts with the configuration files, which are typically stored on z/OS datasets. The Menu Interpreter reads these files and processes the menu definitions. The Menu Presentation module then uses CICS services to display the menus to the user.
Security is handled through CICS security mechanisms, including user IDs and passwords. Access to menu definition files is secured through standard z/OS security mechanisms, such as RACF. There are no external APIs.
The primary administrative interface is through CICS commands and configuration files.
