Product Overview

The PCSEVBR architecture comprises three main components: the Restore Engine, the Catalog Interface, and the Security Module. The Restore Engine is responsible for initiating and managing the JCL restoration process. It interacts with the Catalog Interface to locate and retrieve the necessary JCL data from VSAM datasets.

The Catalog Interface maintains metadata about the backed-up JCL, including dataset names, locations, and timestamps. The Security Module enforces access controls, ensuring that only authorized users can perform restore operations. Communication between these components occurs through internal system calls and data exchange via shared memory and system services.

The Restore Engine uses the Catalog Interface to retrieve JCL data and the Security Module to verify user permissions. The system utilizes VSAM datasets for storing metadata related to backups and restorations. The administrative interface is primarily the system console, where commands are entered to manage backups and restores.

Configuration parameters, such as backup dataset locations and security settings, are stored in configuration files. The product does not expose a REST or SOAP API. Authentication is handled through RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.

Audit logging captures all restore operations and administrative actions.
