Product Overview

The architecture of DIRCOMPR on z/OS is centered around a JCL-driven process. The main components include the JCL execution environment, the comparison engine, and the SYSOUT output writer. The JCL environment provides the execution context, handling input parameters and resource allocation.

The comparison engine is the core component, responsible for reading the directory information from the specified PDS/PDSE datasets and performing the comparison logic. This engine identifies missing or duplicate members. The SYSOUT output writer formats and presents the comparison results in a readable report.

Communication between these components is managed through the z/OS operating system. The JCL job initiates the comparison engine, which then accesses the datasets. The results are written to SYSOUT.

No external databases or specific storage mechanisms are used beyond the z/OS file system. There are no specific network requirements or ports. Security is enforced through z/OS access control mechanisms, such as RACF, which govern access to the datasets and the JCL job.

The tool does not have a GUI or API. The JCL job can be automated using z/OS scheduling tools like JES. The use of wildcards in dataset names provides flexibility in specifying datasets for comparison.
