The architecture of DRDMVS is centered around three primary components: the Backup Reader, the Data Converter, and the Restore Engine. The Backup Reader is responsible for reading and interpreting the Dr. D backup files.
It parses the backup data, identifying the data structures and metadata. The Data Converter then transforms the data into a format compatible with the z/OS environment. This component handles data type conversions, character set translations, and any necessary adjustments to ensure data integrity.
The Restore Engine writes the converted data to the specified datasets on z/OS. This component manages the allocation of storage, the writing of data blocks, and the handling of any errors during the restore process. Communication between these components is managed internally within the DRDMVS job.
The Backup Reader passes the extracted data to the Data Converter, which in turn passes the converted data to the Restore Engine. DRDMVS utilizes standard z/OS file I/O mechanisms for data transfer. The product does not use any external databases or storage mechanisms beyond the z/OS datasets.
The JCL defines the input and output datasets, and the system handles the physical storage. There are no specific network ports or external network requirements for DRDMVS operations, as all processing occurs within the z/OS environment. The product relies on the z/OS system's security features, such as RACF, for authentication and access control.
All operations are logged through the z/OS system logs, providing an audit trail of activities.
