The architecture of MUSIC/SP comprised several key components: the Supervisor, the File System, the Command Processor, and various device drivers. The Supervisor was responsible for managing system resources, including memory allocation, CPU scheduling, and interrupt handling. The File System provided a hierarchical file structure for storing data, with support for various file types and access permissions.
The Command Processor interpreted user commands entered at the terminal, executing the requested operations. Communication between these components occurred through system calls and shared memory. The File System used a proprietary storage mechanism.
There were no external APIs. The system relied on a basic authentication model based on user IDs and passwords. The system did not offer advanced security features like RBAC or encryption.
Compared to z/OS, MUSIC/SP had a simpler architecture and fewer features, including a less robust security model and limited scalability. MUSIC/SP is no longer supported; migration to a supported platform is recommended.
