The architecture of IBM OMEGAMON for Storage is centered around the Tivoli Monitoring framework. The main components include the OMEGAMON monitoring agent, the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS), and the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP). The OMEGAMON agent, deployed on the z/OS system, collects data from various storage components, including DASD, tape drives, and DFSMS.
The agent uses TCP/IP to communicate with the TEMS. The TEMS acts as a central repository for the collected data, processing and storing it in a relational database. The TEP provides a graphical user interface for accessing the monitoring data.
The TEP communicates with the TEMS using HTTP or HTTPS. The agent configuration is managed through configuration files and the TEMS. The agent configuration specifies which metrics to collect, thresholds, and other operational parameters.
The TEMS configuration manages user access, security settings, and data retention policies. The system supports RBAC, allowing administrators to define roles and assign permissions. The TEP provides pre-defined dashboards and views, and users can customize these views to meet specific monitoring needs.
The system also supports logging and auditing, providing detailed records of system events and user actions. The data collected is stored in a relational database, allowing for historical analysis and reporting. The architecture is designed for scalability and high availability, ensuring continuous monitoring of storage resources.
