The architecture of EZ-Megabuf/Sequential comprised several key components designed to optimize sequential data access within CA IDMS databases. The core component was the pre-fetch engine, responsible for proactively reading data blocks into memory. This engine operated asynchronously, anticipating the need for data based on sequential access patterns.
The buffer manager allocated and managed the memory used for the pre-fetch buffers. The size of these buffers was configurable, allowing for tuning based on system resources and workload characteristics. The monitoring module provided real-time performance metrics, such as the number of blocks pre-fetched, the hit ratio, and the I/O wait times.
These metrics were crucial for identifying bottlenecks and optimizing the pre-fetch configuration. The product communicated with the CA IDMS database through a native API, enabling seamless integration. The configuration was managed through JCL parameters and IDMS system parameters.
The product is not supported; its features are now part of EZ-DB for IDMS.
