Product Overview

CL/Gateway for IMS, now unsupported, was a z/OS-based product designed to optimize IMS terminal management. The architecture comprised several key components: the Gateway Manager, Session Manager, and Terminal Pool Manager. The Gateway Manager handled the overall management of virtual sessions and terminal pools.

The Session Manager was responsible for establishing and maintaining IMS sessions. The Terminal Pool Manager managed the allocation and deallocation of terminals within the pools. These components communicated using internal z/OS mechanisms, such as cross-memory services and system services.

Configuration data, including terminal pool definitions, LTERM assignments, and session parameters, was stored in VSAM files. The CLI was the primary interface for all configuration and management tasks. The CLI commands included `DEFINE POOL` to create terminal pools, `ASSIGN LTERM` to assign LTERMs to users or groups, and commands to manage session parameters.

The product did not expose any APIs. Security was handled by the underlying z/OS and IMS security subsystems. Monitoring was performed through system logs and console messages.

The product's functionality is now part of CL/Supersession. Migration to CL/Supersession involves reconfiguring terminal definitions and session parameters within the new environment.
