The core architecture of CDB/System Recovery consists of three primary components: the Recovery Manager, the Catalog Processor, and the Data Mover. The Recovery Manager acts as the central orchestrator, managing the overall recovery process. It interacts with the other components and the Db2 subsystem to ensure a consistent and reliable restore.
The Catalog Processor is responsible for handling catalog-related recovery tasks, such as restoring catalog tables and ensuring metadata consistency. It utilizes Db2 system tables and utilities to manage catalog information. The Data Mover is responsible for restoring data from backups.
It interacts with the z/OS system to access backup datasets and restore data to the appropriate storage locations. Communication between these components occurs through z/OS inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms. The Recovery Manager uses control blocks and message queues to coordinate the activities of the Catalog Processor and Data Mover.
The tool leverages standard z/OS services for data access and manipulation. The system utilizes VSAM datasets for temporary storage during the restore process. Network requirements are minimal, primarily for accessing backup datasets, typically using standard z/OS protocols.
The administrative interface is primarily ISPF, providing a user-friendly environment for configuration and monitoring. Configuration parameters include backup dataset locations, recovery point objectives (RPO), and recovery time objectives (RTO). The tool provides detailed logging and monitoring capabilities, including real-time status updates and error reporting.
CDB/System Recovery's design prioritizes performance and reliability within the z/OS environment, ensuring minimal downtime during recovery operations.
