The architecture of ASG-Cortex-MS comprised several key components designed to facilitate the migration of applications from z/VSE to z/OS. The core of the system was the conversion engine, responsible for translating source code from z/VSE to z/OS-compatible formats. This engine supported various programming languages and data structures.
The JCL translator was another critical component, converting JCL statements from z/VSE to their z/OS equivalents. This ensured that batch jobs could run correctly in the new environment. The data file converter handled the transformation of data files, ensuring compatibility with z/OS file systems such as VSAM.
The communication between these components was primarily through batch processing. JCL controlled the execution flow, specifying the input and output datasets, and invoking the conversion utilities. There were no APIs.
The system utilized z/OS system protocols for file transfer and data access, such as TCP/IP and VSAM. Configuration was managed through JCL parameters and control statements within the conversion utilities. Security relied on the underlying z/OS security infrastructure, such as RACF or ACF2.
Audit and logging were handled by the z/OS system. Since ASG-Cortex-MS is not supported, organizations should consider modern migration tools.
