Product Overview

The architecture of XA/RELO comprised several key components designed to monitor and analyze CICS performance. The main components included the Data Collector, the Reporting Engine, and the Data Storage. The Data Collector resided within the CICS address space and used CICS SPIs to gather real-time performance metrics.

It collected data on transaction response times, CPU usage, I/O operations, and other relevant performance indicators. The Reporting Engine processed the collected data, generating various reports and visualizations. It used batch processing to generate historical reports and provided an online interface for real-time monitoring.

Data Storage was typically implemented using VSAM files for storing historical performance data. Communication between components was primarily internal to the z/OS system. The Data Collector wrote data to VSAM files, which the Reporting Engine then accessed.

There were no external network requirements for the core functionality. The TSO/ISPF interface provided access to the reporting engine. Because XA/RELO is no longer supported, organizations should consider modern alternatives that offer more advanced architectural designs and integration capabilities.
