Product Overview

The architecture of Tivoli Storage Optimizer (TSO) comprised several key components. The TSO server was the central management component, responsible for overall operations. Agents interacted with storage devices and libraries.

Communication between components occurred within the z/OS environment, using internal protocols. The command-line interface (CLI) was the primary interface for administration. Configuration was managed through control files.

Security relied on z/OS security features, such as RACF. For example, a storage administrator could use the CLI to define a policy for data migration based on access frequency. However, TSO is no longer supported.

IBM recommends migrating to IBM Storage Protect or IBM Z Storage Management Suite.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was Tivoli Storage Optimizer?

Tivoli Storage Optimizer (TSO) was a software tool designed to automate storage administration tasks on z/OS systems. It provided utilities for monitoring disk and tape devices, and for optimizing storage utilization. However, it is no longer supported.

What were the key features of Tivoli Storage Optimizer?

TSO offered features for storage tiering, data migration, and space reclamation. It could automatically move data between different storage tiers based on access frequency and other policies. It also provided tools for managing tape libraries and optimizing tape usage.

What platform did Tivoli Storage Optimizer run on?

TSO was primarily used on IBM z/OS systems to manage and optimize storage resources. It helped administrators automate tasks, reduce storage costs, and improve overall storage efficiency. It is not supported on other platforms.

How did Tivoli Storage Optimizer integrate with other systems?

TSO was designed to integrate with other IBM storage management products. It could work with tape libraries, disk storage systems, and other components to provide a comprehensive storage management solution. However, it is no longer supported.
