Product Overview

The architecture comprised a client-server model. The TSM server was the central component, managing data storage and retrieval. The TSM client, installed on z/OS systems, initiated backup and restore operations.

Storage devices, including tape libraries and disk storage, were managed by the server. Communication between the client and server used TCP/IP. The server utilized a relational database for metadata management.

Configuration files defined server and client settings, including storage pool definitions and backup schedules. The CLI was the primary interface for administrative tasks. Security was provided through user authentication and data encryption.

The product is not supported; IBM Spectrum Protect offers a more modern architecture.
