Product Overview

The Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Platform's architecture was designed for high performance and data availability. The main components included Directors, Cache, and Drives. Directors managed data access and I/O operations, the Cache optimized data retrieval, and Drives provided the physical storage.

These components communicated via a high-speed internal fabric. The platform supported Fibre Channel for high-speed data transfer. Administrative interfaces included a command-line interface (CLI) and a graphical user interface (GUI).

The CLI allowed for scripting and automation, while the GUI provided a visual management experience. User management was handled through the administrative interfaces, allowing administrators to create, modify, and delete user accounts. Configuration parameters included storage allocation, performance settings, and network configurations.

The platform provided monitoring and logging capabilities to track system performance and events. The platform is no longer supported. Consider Dell PowerMax, Hitachi VSP E Series, IBM FlashSystem, Pure Storage FlashArray, or NetApp AFF for modern alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of the Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Platform?
