The DLimit architecture comprises several key components: the Command Processor, Account Manager, Quota Enforcer, Reporting Engine, and Security Interface. The Command Processor handles user input from the CLI, parsing commands and validating parameters. The Account Manager manages account creation, modification, and deletion, storing account details in a dedicated VSAM data set.
The Quota Enforcer intercepts storage allocation requests, comparing the requested space against the defined quota for the associated account. If the quota is exceeded, the Quota Enforcer can issue a warning message or deny the allocation, based on configuration settings. The Reporting Engine generates reports on storage usage, including quota utilization and violations.
, RACF, ACF2, Top Secret) to control access to DLimit commands and resources. Communication between components occurs through z/OS system services and internal control blocks. The CLI provides the primary administrative interface, allowing users to create accounts (CREATE ACCOUNT
DLimit uses standard z/OS system calls for storage management and does not expose any external APIs. All data is stored within z/OS datasets. Network requirements are minimal, as the system operates within the z/OS environment.
Compared to generic storage management tools, DLimit provides a focused solution for DASD quota management. Unlike some competitors, DLimit's design prioritizes simplicity and efficiency in managing DASD space allocation.
