Prefix Update

The architecture of Prefix Update comprised several key components. The Prefix Update Processor was the core engine, responsible for executing the prefix update operations. It parsed the control cards, validated the input parameters, and applied the necessary changes to the IMS database.

The Data Set Reorganization utility was used to restructure the datasets after prefix modifications. This ensured data consistency and optimized storage. The Reporting Module generated reports on prefix usage, database status, and the results of the update operations.

These reports provided valuable insights into the database's health and performance. The tool did not expose any APIs. Communication occurred through batch jobs interacting directly with IMS databases.

Configuration was managed through JCL and control cards, which specified the IMS database details, prefix parameters, and operational instructions. Security relied on z/OS security features, including user authentication and access control mechanisms. Prefix Update's functionality is now provided by other IMS database management tools.
