The architecture of Mochasoft TN3270 is centered around a client-server model, with the client application running on the user's device and the mainframe acting as the server. The main components include the Client Application, the TN3270 Protocol Stack, and Configuration Files. The Client Application provides the user interface, handles user input, and displays output from the mainframe.
It is responsible for rendering the terminal screen and managing user interactions. The TN3270 Protocol Stack handles the communication with the mainframe using the TN3270 protocol over TCP/IP. This component manages the session, translates data, and ensures reliable data transfer.
Configuration Files store connection settings, terminal type, and security parameters. These files are typically in a plain text format and can be edited manually or through the application's interface. Communication between the client and the mainframe occurs over a TCP/IP connection, typically using port 23 (Telnet) or a custom port for TN3270 traffic.
The client initiates the connection, and the mainframe responds. Data is transmitted in a structured format defined by the TN3270 protocol. Security is primarily handled by the mainframe's security mechanisms, including user ID and password authentication, and potentially Kerberos.
Encryption, such as SSL/TLS, can be used to secure the communication channel. The emulator itself does not have a database or storage mechanism; it relies on the mainframe for data storage and processing.
