The architecture of LRS/Spool is designed for high performance and scalability on z/OS. The main components include the Spool Manager, Output Processor, Input Processor, and Print Server. The Spool Manager is responsible for managing print jobs, while the Output Processor handles the formatting and transmission of output data.
The Input Processor receives print data, and the Print Server communicates with printers. These components communicate using internal z/OS interfaces and TCP/IP for network communication. Data is stored using z/OS datasets.
The system uses RACF for authentication and access control. Configuration is managed through system parameters and configuration files. The CLI and system console commands are used for administration.
For example, to start the spooler: `START SPOOL`. To display the status: `DISPLAY SPOOL,STATUS`. The system supports various output formats, including AFP and PostScript.
Audit logging is available for security and compliance.
