DRS/SAPR2

The architecture of DRS/SAPR2 consists of several key components designed to intercept, route, and manage SAP R/2 print output on z/OS. The primary components include the SAP R/2 Output Interceptor, the DRS Routing Engine, the JES SPOOL Interface, and the DRS Print Management System. The SAP R/2 Output Interceptor is responsible for capturing print data from the SAP R/2 application.

This component resides within the z/OS environment and intercepts print requests destined for physical printers. The DRS Routing Engine processes the intercepted print data. This engine applies predefined routing rules, which are configured in DRS configuration files.

These rules determine the destination of the print output, such as the JES SPOOL. The JES SPOOL Interface is responsible for writing the processed print data to the JES SPOOL. This interface uses z/OS system services to create and manage print jobs on the SPOOL.

The DRS Print Management System provides the tools for managing the print jobs once they are on the JES SPOOL. This includes features for monitoring, controlling, and archiving print output. Communication between components occurs through z/OS system services and internal DRS modules.

The interceptor uses z/OS system calls to capture print data. The routing engine uses DRS internal modules to process and format the data. The JES SPOOL interface uses z/OS APIs to write data to the SPOOL.

Data storage relies on the JES SPOOL for temporary storage of print jobs and the DRS system for storing configuration data and print job metadata. Network requirements are minimal, relying on the z/OS system's network configuration for communication with the SAP R/2 application and the JES SPOOL.
