The architecture of ITCAM for CICS consisted of several key components designed to monitor and analyze CICS transactions. The core component was the CICS data collector, a module that ran within the CICS address space. This collector used CICS API calls to capture transaction-level data, including response times, resource consumption, and transaction details.
The data collector communicated with the ITCAM for Transactions infrastructure, which provided the central point for data aggregation, analysis, and reporting. Communication between the data collector and the ITCAM for Transactions server occurred over TCP/IP. The data collector was configured using CICS system initialization parameters and ITCAM configuration tools.
Configuration parameters included the data collection interval, the specific transactions to be monitored, and the communication settings for connecting to the ITCAM for Transactions server. The ITCAM for Transactions infrastructure stored the collected data in a relational database for historical analysis and reporting. The primary administrative interface was the ITCAM for Transactions console, which provided a graphical user interface for managing the monitoring environment.
The product did not expose any direct APIs for external integration. Security was handled through the underlying z/OS security mechanisms, such as RACF, to control access to the CICS regions and the ITCAM for Transactions infrastructure. The product used SSL/TLS for secure communication between the data collector and the ITCAM for Transactions server.
