The architecture of Infosphere Classic CDC is centered around three primary components: the Replication Engine, the Access Server, and the Management Console. The Replication Engine is responsible for capturing data changes from the IMS log. It uses a combination of techniques, including transaction logging and change data capture, to ensure data consistency.
The Access Server provides connectivity to IMS and other data sources, supporting various database-specific protocols. It handles the extraction of data changes and the transformation of data as needed. The Management Console is the central point for configuring and monitoring replication tasks.
It provides a GUI for defining replication rules, setting up transformation mappings, and managing scheduling options. The communication between components is primarily over TCP/IP. Security is handled through operating system authentication and database security features, with encryption supported at the database level.
Audit logging captures all replication activities, including errors, warnings, and performance metrics. Compared to other solutions, Infosphere Classic CDC provides specialized support for IMS, offering optimized performance and reliability for IMS-centric data integration scenarios. For example, the Replication Engine is optimized to handle IMS data structures and transaction management efficiently.
The Management Console provides a centralized interface for managing replication tasks, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting issues.
