The IMS Workload Router (WLR) architecture comprises several key components designed to efficiently manage and route transactions across multiple IMS systems. The Workload Router address space is the central process that handles transaction routing decisions. The Rule Definition component allows administrators to define routing rules based on various criteria, such as transaction IDs, user IDs, or system load.
The Monitor component provides real-time monitoring of transaction activity and system performance. The IMS Connect interface facilitates communication between the WLR and the IMS systems. Communication between components occurs primarily through internal z/OS mechanisms and TCP/IP.
The Workload Router address space receives transaction requests and consults the Rule Definition component to determine the appropriate IMS system for routing. The Monitor component collects performance data and provides status information. The system uses configuration files to store routing rules and system parameters.
The z/OS security environment, such as RACF, is used for access control and authentication. The system generates SMF records for auditing and performance analysis. The primary administrative interface is through z/OS console commands, such as START WLR, STOP WLR, DEFINE RULE, and DISPLAY STATUS.
Compared to other solutions, IMS Workload Router provides specialized transaction routing capabilities tailored for IMS systems.
