HSCAN

HSCAN's architecture is centered around three primary components: the Data Extraction Module, the Filtering Engine, and the Reporting Module. The Data Extraction Module is responsible for reading and parsing DFSMShsm log data sets. It uses standard z/OS data set access methods to retrieve the log data.

The Filtering Engine processes the extracted data based on user-defined criteria, such as date ranges, user IDs, and specific HSM events. This component employs a rule-based system to filter records. The Reporting Module formats the filtered data into various output formats, including text, CSV, and potentially other formats.

Communication between these components occurs through internal data structures and control blocks. Configuration is primarily managed through JCL and control statements, which specify the log data set names, report output destinations, and filtering criteria. HSCAN does not use any external databases or require specific network ports.

The utility operates within the z/OS environment, leveraging its resources and interfaces. The design emphasizes efficient data processing and flexible reporting capabilities to meet diverse user needs. The modular design allows for future enhancements and integration with other system management tools.
