Product Overview
The architecture of Global Search and Replace is centered around several key components. The Command Processor is responsible for parsing user input, validating commands, and managing the overall execution flow. The Dataset Access Module handles the interaction with z/OS and z/VSE/VSEn datasets, providing read and write capabilities for various file types (sequential, PDS, VSAM).
The Search Engine implements the core search and replace logic, supporting options for case sensitivity, whole-word matching, and regular expressions. The Reporting Module generates detailed reports on the search and replace operations, including the number of occurrences found, the number of replacements made, and any errors encountered. Communication between components is primarily through internal function calls and data structures.
The tool does not typically use a database. It directly accesses datasets using system-level I/O operations. Configuration is managed through control cards or parameter files.
The tool integrates with the z/OS security system (RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret) for authentication and access control. The tool's reporting capabilities provide detailed information on the changes made, ensuring data integrity and facilitating compliance.
