Product Overview

The architecture of Db2 Analytics Accelerator (DAA) comprises several key components. The core is the DAA appliance, a dedicated hardware platform optimized for query processing. This appliance includes the accelerator engine, which executes accelerated queries.

The Db2 for z/OS system acts as the primary database server, with the Db2 optimizer playing a crucial role in determining which queries can be offloaded. Communication between Db2 for z/OS and the DAA appliance occurs over TCP/IP. The Db2 optimizer analyzes SQL queries and, if suitable, routes them to the accelerator.

The DAA software, residing on both the Db2 for z/OS system and the appliance, manages the query offloading and result retrieval. The DAA console provides a web-based interface for monitoring, configuration, and management. Data storage on the accelerator is optimized for high-speed query processing.

The accelerator engine utilizes advanced techniques such as columnar storage and parallel processing to maximize performance. The `ACCELERATE TABLE` statement is used to enable acceleration for specific tables. The DAA appliance communicates with Db2 for z/OS using TCP/IP.

The Db2 optimizer determines which queries are suitable for acceleration. Compared to other solutions, DAA offers specialized hardware and tight integration with Db2, optimizing performance for complex analytical workloads.
