The architecture of CDB/DSTATS consists of three main components: the Data Collector, the Analysis Engine, and the Reporting Module. The Data Collector is a batch job or started task that gathers data distribution statistics from Db2 catalog tables and user-defined tables. It accesses the Db2 catalog to retrieve metadata and uses SQL queries to gather the necessary statistics.
The Analysis Engine processes the collected data, calculating metrics such as the number of distinct values, frequency of values, and the range of values for each column. The Analysis Engine also identifies potential data distribution issues based on configurable thresholds. The Reporting Module provides a user-friendly interface for viewing the analysis results.
It presents the data in various formats, including tables, charts, and graphs. The Reporting Module allows users to filter and sort the data to identify specific performance bottlenecks. The communication between components is primarily through Db2 tables.
The Data Collector writes the collected data to these tables, and the Analysis Engine and Reporting Module read from these tables. The system uses Db2 as the primary storage mechanism for the collected data. The Db2 tables are designed for efficient querying and reporting.
The system integrates with the z/OS security infrastructure, using RACF for authentication and RBAC for access control. The Data Collector and other components are configured through configuration files, which specify parameters such as the tables and columns to be analyzed, the collection frequency, and the thresholds for identifying data distribution issues. The system does not have any specific network port requirements, as it operates within the z/OS environment.
