Product Overview

CA Quickfetch is a z/OS component that enhances application performance through dynamic caching of load modules. The architecture includes an intercept routine that intercepts load requests, a memory manager that manages the in-memory cache, and an ISPF interface for monitoring and control. The intercept routine checks if a requested module is in memory; if so, it's loaded directly from the cache.

Otherwise, it's loaded from disk and added to the cache. The memory manager allocates and deallocates memory for the cache. Configuration is performed via configuration files, specifying load libraries and memory limits.

CA Quickfetch leverages z/OS security for authentication and authorization. Communication between components is primarily through z/OS system services. It integrates with CA PMO for comprehensive performance management.

While z/OS VLF provides similar caching functionality, CA Quickfetch is specifically designed for load modules, offering focused optimization. Key metrics to monitor include cache hit ratio, CPU utilization, and I/O reduction. Competing products include IBM's z/OS VLF; Quickfetch focuses specifically on load modules.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of CA Quickfetch?

CA Quickfetch dynamically copies frequently used load modules into memory, reducing load processing time. It operates similarly to VLF but is specifically designed for load modules.

How does CA Quickfetch handle updates to load modules?

CA Quickfetch automatically detects changes to load modules and refreshes the in-memory copy. This ensures that the most up-to-date version of the module is always used.

How can I monitor the performance of CA Quickfetch?

CA Quickfetch provides an ISPF interface to view performance statistics related to load module usage and the effectiveness of the dynamic caching.

Does CA Quickfetch integrate with other CA products?

While CA Quickfetch can operate independently, it is often used in conjunction with CA PMO (Performance Management Option) to provide a more comprehensive performance management solution.
