The architecture of BMC AMI Backup and Recovery for IMS is centered around three main components: Image Copy Plus, Change Accumulation Plus, and Recovery Plus. Image Copy Plus creates full or incremental image copies of IMS databases. This component uses JCL to define the backup process, including the database to be backed up and the output dataset for the image copy.
A typical JCL structure includes the EXEC statement to invoke the BMCICPLUS program and the SYSIN DD statement to provide control statements. Change Accumulation Plus merges change records from the IMS log datasets with the image copies, ensuring that the backups are up-to-date. Recovery Plus uses the image copies and change accumulation data to restore the database to a consistent state.
The product integrates with z/OS security, using RACF or equivalent for access control. The product does not expose external APIs. All operations are performed through JCL and internal IMS interfaces.
The product supports encryption of data at rest through z/OS facilities, such as encryption of datasets. The product integrates with z/OS system logging and security auditing features.
