Product Overview

The architecture of TPS/2780/3780 is centered around enabling BSC communication between AIX systems and remote clients. The key components include the BSC Listener, which actively listens for incoming connections on a specified port; the Communication Manager, which handles the BSC protocol, manages data transmission, and interprets commands; and the Data Transfer module, which facilitates the transfer of files between the AIX system and the remote client. These components interact through internal communication mechanisms, primarily using shared memory and inter-process communication (IPC) to manage data flow and control.

Configuration parameters are stored in flat configuration files, which specify settings such as the communication line address, device type, and BSC protocol parameters. The system does not use any databases. Network requirements include the ability to establish a BSC connection over a serial or network interface, depending on the hardware configuration.

The system does not expose any APIs. The product's focus is on providing a reliable BSC communication solution, without the complexity of more modern protocols. The product does not support modern authentication methods.

Logging is available for monitoring and troubleshooting.
