Product Overview

The architecture of Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager (TKLM) comprised several key components. The Key Manager Server was the central processing unit, handling key generation, storage, and access control requests. The DB2 database provided persistent storage for key metadata, configuration data, and audit logs.

The administrative console, accessible via a web-based GUI and a command-line interface (CLI), allowed administrators to manage keys, users, and system configurations. Communication between components occurred over a network, with HTTP/S used for API access. 509 certificates, and access control was managed through role-based access control (RBAC).

The system's design emphasized centralized key management, providing a secure and auditable environment for managing encryption keys. TKLM is no longer supported; the recommended replacement is Security Key Lifecycle Manager (SKLM).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager?

Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager (TKLM) is a software solution designed for the centralized management of encryption keys. It provides features for key generation, storage, rotation, and access control, primarily for z/OS environments. It uses DB2 for data storage and requires the System Services Runtime Environment.

What are the primary functions of Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager?

TKLM's core function is to manage the lifecycle of encryption keys. This includes generating new keys, storing them securely, rotating keys periodically, and controlling access to keys based on defined policies. It supports various encryption algorithms and key types.

What are the key platform and infrastructure requirements for TKLM?

TKLM is designed to operate within the z/OS environment. It leverages DB2 for persistent storage of key data and metadata. The System Services Runtime Environment is a prerequisite for its operation, providing the necessary system-level services.

When was Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager released, and what is its current support status?

TKLM was initially released in 2009. Support for this product has ended. It has been superseded by Security Key Lifecycle Manager (SKLM), which offers enhanced features and broader platform support.
