Product Overview

The architecture of Speed Unload comprised several key components. The Unload Engine was responsible for reading data from the IMS database and writing it to the output dataset. The Control Card Processor interpreted the control cards provided in the JCL, which defined the unload parameters, such as the database name, segment types, and selection criteria.

The I/O modules handled the input and output operations, interacting with the IMS database and the output datasets. The utility communicated with the IMS database through z/OS system services, utilizing direct dataset access for data retrieval. Data was unloaded to sequential datasets.

There were no specific network requirements, as the process occurred within the z/OS environment. The primary administrative interface was through JCL and control cards. User management was handled through z/OS security.

Monitoring was achieved through job logs, which recorded the status and any errors encountered during the unload process. The utility did not expose any APIs. Compared to other utilities, Speed Unload focused on high-speed data extraction and efficiency for large IMS databases.
