The architecture of Shrink/DL/I consisted of three main components: a compression engine, a configuration manager, and a DL/I interface. The compression engine was responsible for applying compression algorithms to the database data. The configuration manager handled the settings for compression, such as the compression level and the location of the database files.
These settings were stored in control files. The DL/I interface provided the means to interact with the DL/I database system, allowing the compression engine to read and write data. The communication between these components was primarily through internal function calls within the zVSE/VSEn environment.
The product did not use any external databases or storage mechanisms beyond the DL/I database itself. There were no specific network requirements or exposed ports. The product did not offer user management or advanced security features.
It is important to note that Shrink/DL/I is no longer supported, and alternative solutions should be considered.
