The architecture of PDSFAST is centered around three primary components: the Copy Engine, the Compression Module, and the Directory Manager. The Copy Engine is responsible for high-speed data transfer, utilizing optimized I/O operations to minimize processing time. The Compression Module employs z/OS system compression algorithms to reduce storage space.
The Directory Manager dynamically allocates directory blocks, preventing 'directory full' errors. These components interact through z/OS system calls. The Copy Engine reads data from the input PDS, the Compression Module compresses the data, and the Directory Manager manages the allocation of directory blocks in the output PDS.
There are no external APIs. PDSFAST integrates with the z/OS security infrastructure, relying on RACF or equivalent for authentication and access control. All operations are logged through the z/OS system logs.
The product is administered through JCL and system console commands. Configuration parameters are set within the JCL or through system initialization options. Monitoring is performed using standard z/OS monitoring tools and system logs.
PDSFAST's architecture is designed for high performance and efficient resource utilization.
