Product Overview
The architecture of PASSPORT Host Integration Objects comprises several key components designed to facilitate seamless integration with legacy host systems. The Terminal Emulator is responsible for emulating 3270 and 5250 terminals, handling the communication protocols and screen rendering. The Host Access Library provides a native API for interacting with the host, including methods for sending keystrokes, reading screen data, and managing host sessions.
The Windows Application Interface allows Windows applications to utilize the host data and functionality. Communication between these components occurs primarily through internal function calls and COM interfaces. The Terminal Emulator communicates with the host systems using TCP/IP and the TN3270/TN5250 protocols.
The Host Access Library interacts with the Terminal Emulator to send and receive data. The Windows Application Interface uses the COM interface to access the Host Access Library's functionality. Data storage is handled by the host systems themselves, and PASSPORT Host Integration Objects does not use any local databases.
Network requirements include access to the host systems via TCP/IP, typically on ports 23 (TN3270) and 2323 (TN5250). Configuration files store connection settings, such as host IP addresses, port numbers, and terminal types. The product's architecture is designed for direct and efficient integration, minimizing the need for complex middleware and providing a streamlined approach to terminal emulation and data access.
