Multiprint/VM

The architecture of Multiprint/VM comprises several key components: the Print Spooler, the Routing Engine, and the Output Manager. The Print Spooler manages the print job queue, receiving print jobs from various sources. The Routing Engine is the core of the system, determining the destination of each print job based on predefined rules.

These rules can be configured using the command-line interface (CLI) and can be based on criteria such as user ID, job name, or print class. The Output Manager handles the final delivery of the print output to the designated printers or output devices. Communication between these components occurs over the z/VM internal communication mechanisms.

The system uses TCP/IP for network communication with printers and other external devices, utilizing protocols like LPR/LPD. The configuration data, including printer definitions and routing rules, is stored in z/VM files. Security is enforced through z/VM user authentication and access controls, ensuring that only authorized users can submit and manage print jobs.

Audit logging is provided to track print job activities and administrative actions.
