The architecture of MacKinney Print Transform is designed for efficient AFP conversion within a z/OS environment. The core components include the AFP Input Module, the Transformation Engine, and the Output Module. The AFP Input Module receives the AFP data stream, parses it, and prepares it for conversion.
The Transformation Engine is responsible for the core conversion logic, translating AFP commands and data into the target format (PCL, PostScript, or PDF). This module handles font mapping, graphic conversion, and page layout adjustments. The Output Module generates the final output file in the selected format.
Communication between components occurs through internal function calls and data structures within the z/OS address space. The software utilizes z/OS datasets for input and output, and configuration parameters are stored in JCL and configuration files. Security is managed through z/OS security features, such as RACF, ensuring that access to the software and its resources is controlled.
The software does not expose any external APIs. The primary network requirement is access to the z/OS mainframe. The software supports a wide range of AFP font types and accurately converts graphics, preserving the original image quality.
The conversion process is optimized for performance within the mainframe environment.
