Product Overview

The architecture of IMS High Performance Pointer Checker is centered around several key components designed to ensure efficient and reliable database maintenance. The Control Program serves as the central orchestrator, managing the execution flow and coordinating the activities of other modules. The Database Access Module is responsible for interacting with the IMS databases, reading and writing data as required for checking and repair operations.

The Reporting Module generates reports on database space usage and other relevant metrics. The Repair Module is responsible for correcting pointer errors and other data inconsistencies. These components communicate through internal interfaces and data structures.

The tool operates within the z/OS environment, utilizing JCL and control cards for configuration and execution. The tool directly interacts with IMS databases, reading and writing data within the IMS database structures to perform its functions. The tool does not use any external databases or storage mechanisms.

The tool's primary function is to validate and repair IMS database pointer problems, ensuring data integrity and availability. The tool's focus on pointer validation and repair, along with segment management, differentiates it from tools that may offer broader database management capabilities.
