IMAGE Control Environment

The architecture of IMAGE Control Environment is centered around three primary components: IPLCheck, New Release Analysis, and the Control Editor. IPLCheck is responsible for verifying the IPL process, ensuring system integrity during startup. New Release Analysis provides tools to assess the impact of new software releases, identifying potential conflicts or required system changes.

The Control Editor allows for direct modification of system configuration files. These components communicate through z/OS system calls and utilize z/OS datasets for data storage. The administrative interface, accessible via the command-line interface (CLI), provides a means to manage users, configure system parameters, and monitor system activity.

User management is handled through the administrative interface, which supports role-based access control (RBAC). Configuration parameters are stored in system datasets, allowing for persistent storage of settings. Monitoring and logging capabilities are provided through z/OS system logging facilities.

The system does not expose external APIs such as REST or SOAP. Instead, it relies on native z/OS interfaces for integration. For example, the `IPLCHECK` command interacts with system datasets to verify the IPL status.

The `NEWREL` command analyzes new release packages, and `EDITCFG` allows for configuration file modifications. The product's design prioritizes efficiency and ease of use within the z/OS environment, offering a focused set of tools for system configuration and release management, unlike broader system automation solutions.
