Product Overview

The architecture of COPE for DBCTL is designed to virtualize and consolidate multiple IMS DBCTL environments within a single z/OS subsystem. The core components include the COPE Control Program, the Virtual System Manager, and the Resource Manager. The COPE Control Program is the central control point, responsible for initializing, managing, and terminating the virtual IMS environments.

It coordinates the activities of the other components and ensures overall system stability. The Virtual System Manager is responsible for managing the individual virtual IMS environments. It handles the allocation of resources, such as CPU time and memory, to each virtual system.

The Resource Manager is responsible for allocating and managing system resources, including storage and I/O. Communication between these components occurs through internal control blocks and shared memory areas within the z/OS environment. Configuration files define the parameters for each virtual IMS environment, specifying resource allocation, system parameters, and other settings.

The command-line interface (CLI) provides administrative access. Security is integrated with z/OS security, using RACF for access control. This architecture allows for efficient resource utilization and simplified management of IMS DBCTL systems.
