CA VMAN

The architecture of CA VMAN is centered around three primary components: the Session Manager, the VTAM interface, and the Terminal Interface. The Session Manager is the core component, responsible for managing multiple 3270 sessions within a single terminal session. It handles the creation, switching, and termination of sessions, allowing users to seamlessly move between different VTAM applications.

The VTAM interface provides the connection to the mainframe's VTAM environment. It handles the communication with the VTAM applications, translating the 3270 data streams to and from the applications. This component ensures that the applications behave as expected within the CA VMAN environment.

The Terminal Interface manages the user's terminal session, handling the display of application screens and the input from the user. It interacts with the 3270 terminal emulator, providing the user interface for accessing the applications. Communication between these components is primarily internal, using optimized data structures and protocols to ensure efficient session management.

The Session Manager communicates with both the VTAM interface and the Terminal Interface to coordinate session activities. The VTAM interface communicates with the mainframe applications using the VTAM protocol. The Terminal Interface communicates with the user's terminal using the 3270 protocol.

Data storage is minimal, primarily involving session metadata and configuration settings. These are typically stored in memory and are managed by the Session Manager. Network requirements include connectivity to the mainframe via VTAM, which requires proper network configuration and access to the mainframe's network resources.

The product does not expose any REST or SOAP APIs. The administrative interface is primarily a command-line interface (CLI) for configuration and management tasks. User management is handled through integration with mainframe security systems like RACF or ACF2.

The product supports RBAC through integration with mainframe security, ensuring secure access to applications. The audit and logging capabilities are provided through integration with the mainframe's security and logging systems.
